WWE Friday Night Smackdown 4/9/2021

Daniel Bryan comes out to talk to start. He talks about how excited he is for Wrestlemania. He talks about all the crap he had to go through all these years and how many don't think he belongs, but he does. He said while others said no, he said yes. He said he can win the title at Mania and lead the crowd into a "yes" chant.

The Street Profits were in the back yelling "yes" along with DB. They said they will win the tag titles then they got jumped by Roode and Dolph. They fought in the back with Dolph going into a tv monitor, then they fought on the ramp. Alpha Academy and the Mysterio's then joined in and chaos ensued as we went to break.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship - Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode vs Rey and Dominic Mysterio vs The Street Profits vs Otis and Chad Gable

Gable catches Dom in a wheelbarrow and Otis hits dom to suplex him over. Dom gets worked over for a while and tags to Rey, who satellite headscissors Gable. Rey gets caught on a moonsault but turns it into a ddt. Gable gets back body dropped over the top but Otis catches him, then Rey and Dom both dive onto them.

We go to break and return. Ford handstands then backflips into a dropkick on Roode. Roode gets a spinebuster on Ford then does a great sell for a spinning Otis lariat. Otis then running elbow drops Ford. Gable hits a beautiful northern lights suplex on Ford then Ziggler hits a nice dropkick on Ford. Ziggler goes for the fameasser but takes a spinning powerbomb instead.

Dawkins comes in with the hot tag and clears out Gable and Roode, then he bulldogs Roode. Roode and Zig get double 619's by the Mysterio's. Dom frogsplashes Roode but then Otis splashes him.

The Profits double dropkick Otis then Ford flip dives Otis.  Gable backrolls Dawkins into a german then Ford hits a high frogsplashe on Gable. Zig superkicks Ford then Roode pins Gable.

As always with this pairing, it's a good match. These guys have been doing versions of this match for months and it's always good and this was no exception. 

Bianca Belair is interviewed. She said she is excited and nervous for Mania. She said beating Sasha would be the best night of her life.

Big E does a promo on Crews from the barber shop. Big E is from Tampa. He talks about Raymond James Stadium, where Mania is. He said he owns a piece of the soil and said Crews' IC title dreams come to die here. This was a nice little promo.

We get a package on The Fiend vs Orton.

Nia Jax with Shayna Baszler and Reginald vs Tamina with Natalya

These two are related. Nia pushes her down early and says she dominates this. Tamina then pushes her down and charges up back. Reg gets on the apron and both Tamina and Shayna grab him then Nia blasts Tamina with a shoulder. Nia then splashes her in the corner.

Tamina avoids a corner charge and Nia goes shoulder first into the post. Shayna goes on the apron to interrupt Tamina, but Natalya pulls her down and they fight. Tamina samoan drops Nia. Tamina goes for the pin then Shayna attacks Tamina and Natalya goes after Shayna. Shayna then escapes with Nia. This was actually fun for being so short with Nia and Tamina looking like monsters.

The Riott Squad get interviewed about the tag team turmoil match. Billy Kay comes in and they mock her for not having a partner. Carmella then joins her. Ruby says her and Liv are more in sync than ever. Carmella talks about herself mostly forgetting billy then the other teams in the turmoil match interrupt. Then they all fight with Natalya and Tamina joining in and beating them all.

Seth Rollins pays for an ad. They do a hit piece commercial on Cesaro, in support of Seth. This is basically a political style commercial and they talk about how Cesaro doesn't win at Mania.

Edge comes out as we go to break and return. Edge talks about Wrestlemania 6. Edge said that inspired him to wrestle and said wrestling was ripped from him when he was injured. Edge says he hasn't received the respect he deserves since returning. Edge says its time for him to take the respect he deserves.

Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville talk in the back. Sonya said it's not right Roode and Ziggler had to defend their titles night. Sonya said we shouldn't have the 3 way at Mania and it should be Edge vs Roman with DB getting a shot somewhere down the line. I didn't get this one at all.

Sasha Banks is interviewed. She said she will make Bianca tap out. She said she is better and the best and was more heel here than usual.

We get more video packages on Mania matches and it is clear they are either trying to kill time or have taken out a match to hype Mania more.

We go to Sami Zayn who is at a gym. Sami goes up to Logan Paul sparring with Jake Paul. Sami said he will get his workout stuff so he can spare with them. Sami exits and locks himself out. A security guard says they are closed and won't let him back in.

Cole and Graves talk and Sami comes in. Sami says they are seeing selected edited footage. Owens then jumps Sami and they fight. Owens chases Zayn out.

Andre The Giant Battle Royal aka The "Wow, I didn't know that guy still worked here battle royale"

Usually this is at Mania, but despite them having two nights, it's not enough time I guess. The match only exists to give people a spot on the Mania card that they wouldn't get otherwise, so it is funny that it doesn't make the show.

Jey Uso and Shinsuke Nakamura get their own entrances here. T-Bar and Mace are in the ring wearing Retribution gear even though they are broken up and we get a rare Buddy Murphy appearance. Tozawa gets tossed first. Tucker gets tossed. We haven't seen him in months after breaking up with Otis. Erik of the Viking Raiders also makes his first appearance in monnths. The whole crew gangs up on Cedric and Shelton and tosses them.

Gulak gets tossed out hard by Mace and T-Bar, and Slapjack almost goes out too. Humberto Carillo is thrown by the throat over by Mace and T-Bar. Mace and T-Bar battle with Ryker and Elias and push both out. Ali then dumps Mace. Ali is put on the top rope by T-Bar and T-Bar ends up eliminated by Ali. Kalisto appears here after also missing for months. I didn't even know he was on the roster still. Kalisto, Metllaik and Lince all get together for a second before LHP picks on him and tosses him. Metallik tosses Kalisto and Lince.

Corbin eliminates Metallik. Garza and Murphy fight on the apron and Garza has his pants ripped off. Murphy then is eliminated by Corbin. Nakamura eliminates Garza. Ricochet headscissors Ali out. He gets stuck over the middle rope and Jey superkicks him for the elimination. Nakamura, Jey and Corbin are the final three.

Nak eliminates Corbin with a knee then spin kicks Jey. Nak STO's him  and Jey eliminates Nakamura. It's the least they could do for Jey for getting better and taking all kinds of  losses he didn't need to take. Good for Jey.

Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman come out. Roman hugs Jey. We go to break and return. Roman says he will win at Mania. Roman says DB isn't and never will be champ and says DB can't tap him out. Roman talks about Edge saying people took his Wrestlemania match from him and Roman says blame him. Roman says he will crush Edge's dreams at Mania.

Overall thoughts: I finished this show in under an hour. It was a time filler ep used to hype some things last minute for Mania and not much else.
